On the Republic Day (26th January) we inaugurated our Education Hub near Kuki Dam area at Jhalda in Purulia, the western most district of #WestBengal. This marks opening of our 28th Kishalay Edukids Centre in West Bengal. The kids enjoyed the event followed by a nutrition program.
We tried our level best to help some of the poor meritorious students in Sundarban area.Recently we have awarded Scholarship (Arup Kumar Pal Scholarship) to two such talented girls – Pranati Haldar at Kamakhyapur in Gosaba block and Susmita Mondal at Masjidbati, Ramkrishnapur in Basanti block to help some of the poor meritorious students in Sundarban area. This event is being coordinated by our volunteer Babai Mondal.
Nutrition program being organised at our Satjelia Edukids centre in Gosaba block involving 110 children and mother in Sunderban region. Food Nutrition and health Hygiene related issues are also discussed with the mother of the children. The New Year 2022 being celebrated in a different way with a jovial mood along with a picnic.
We are pleased to share that Kishalay Foundation is being felicitated by Young Indians Kolkata Chapter today at a function at Hyatt Regency, Kolkata for our efforts in Plantation program at Sundarban. Young Indians is a movement for Indian Youth to converge, lead, co-create and influence India’s future. As an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), a non-government, not-for-profit, industry led and industry managed organisation, Yi plays a proactive role in India’s development process.Our Co-founder Biplab Das received the award on behalf of Kishalay Team accompanied by Jhilam Nandi, our another key team member and Co-Founder in this event.
Kishalay Sports Academy supported one Yoga Competition organised at Godkhali on 21st November to encourage Yoga for the future generations.
On Children’s day (16th November) we opened our 26th Learning Center at Atapur. Atapur village is located in Sandeshkhali Tehsil of North Twenty Four Parganas district in West Bengal. The Community is extremely happy to receive quality early education in such a remote village. This will help us to bring necessary interventions in the remote community on sustainable development and also marks our entry in the district of North24Parganas.
Nutrition program being organised at Satjelia in Gosaba block with 27 woman (including 18 expecting Mother). We distributed green vegetables,fruits,Protein and Iron rich foods to the expecting mothers and discussed about the importance of Nutrition for them. Similar programs are also being organised by our Lead Volunteer Madhumita Dolui at multiple locations like Dulki, Manmathanagar, Kamakhyapur, Battali etc. during the Daan Utsav (October 2nd to 8th)
On Sunday we were in the mission of planting 2000 fruit saplings, first part of another 4000 fruit saplings plantation project sponsored by Young Indians and CHIP. YI (Young Indians) is the charitable and developmental wing of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).This season we would be completing distribution of close to 10000 fruit saplings in different islands of Sundarban.
Workshop conducted with rural women regarding menstrual health in association with Akaar Innovations in Sudhanshupur at Satjelia in Gosaba block in Sunderban. 60 women attended this workshop.Kudos to our volunteer Madhumita Dolui who is spearheading this workshop drive in various locations across Gosaba region.
Our 3rd centre in Murshidabad started rolling on 15th August at Ghorasadanga village. This centre being inaugurated on the Independence day, started its journey with 84 students on board with community participation in the tribal village.
We opened our new Community Food Store with organic food items at Godkhali from 15th August. We inaugurated the organic store, serving organic produce, exclusively farmed by the female volunteers of Kishalay with the support of other female farmers of Sundarban. This Community Organic Store is located at Godkhali. As an initiative of Kishalay Foundation, in this store we will stock all organic produce and vegetables grown free from chemicals and pesticides.
We are happy to share that Kishalay Foundation recently being felicitated by Bengal Covid Care Initiative at the Press Club on 23rd July for our relief efforts in Covid in Sunderban area. Eminent physician Dr. Kunal Sarkar was present in the function and the award was handed over by the local MLA. Kudos to the Team on the ground.
We are happy to share that we have launched “Kishalay Jagriti” initiative, a Prenatal Nutrition for Expecting Mothers involving Asha karmis. Nutrition and weight management before and during pregnancy has a profound effect on the development of infants. This is extremely critical being an important aspect of overall nutrition program in rural areas and this will be our another dimension to our existing Nutrition program. We have started this with Ramgopalpur village, Basanti block in Sundarban. We have distributed some calcium, iron and folic acid rich foods, with focus on less dependence on tablets.
On 14th July, we have inaugurated and started our second Edukids centre at Kandi in Murshidabad district. The program concluded with the distribution of plant saplings to the kids and their parents.
