Community Food Projects

Food For Work Project

Apart from our educational programs, Kishalay Foundation has also initiated a program for the benefit and support of livelihood of the rural people. We have included rural women as integral part in our Agro-based initiatives. They have undertaken this journey to cultivate organic produce, which in turn provide the necessary nourishment for the children of the region and contribute to a sustainable livelihood. Keeping in mind the hardships of these families, Kishalay Foundation in association with its partner organisations, has undertaken “Food for Work” project. This would mitigate to some extent the economic crisis of rural women as well as provide nutritious foods for the children under its care. Organic Farming adopted by women has been divided among 5 such groups in different islands in Sunderban region to cater to the needs of the people as well as support and maintain their own families.

Community Store of Organic Foods

We have recently opened a community food store at Godkhali, serving organically grown vegetables, eggs, ghee, honey etc. exclusively farmed by female volunteers of Kishalay. This will enable rural women groups to reach out to wider sections of the society and create income opportunities for women thereby leading to economic independence.
