There is a common perception that rural students may not be good in studies. Being spent his early childhood in rural area, our Cofounder has personally experienced the difficulties a rural student faces. He has realized that it is quality early education which make all the differences than the quality of a rural child’s grey matter. It is the right pedagogy and techniques with right learning environment that can create lasting impact in rural children.
With this philosophy in mind our Cofounder Biplab Das, an IIM Bangalore Alumni, along with few of his batch mates and friends, decided to form Kishalay Foundation on 23rd August, 2013 with an aim to work towards improving learning outcome in remote rural schools. He connected with relatives and other friends to gather funds to start this initiative.
We are a team of social entrepreneurs working towards improving learning outcome in early education amongst rural and underprivileged kids of West Bengal, India. We started our work with government aided primary schools in the remote villages of Sundarban, 80 kms from the main city Kolkata. We aim to set up regional centres at block level and work closely with the schools in the areas of pedagogy, sports, and computers on “Cluster Schools” model. Our objective is to bring in all stakeholders (teachers, students, parents, and SIs- Govt. officers) together to run various intervention programs for the educationally-backward communities and thus optimize the quality and cost of their education. Major part of India lives in villages, so even if we could make little impact through our programs it will lead to overall development of the country.
We work with government primary schools in most remote rural villages (Educationally Backward Blocks -EBBs) in India to improve learning outcome mainly through three types of interventions programs such as:
Sports Intervention Programs, Edutoys Intervention Programs and IT Intervention Programs
To make early education in rural India more effective by working with Govt. Primary Schools and setting up new model schools.
To make an impact in basic healthcare in rural India by setting up preventive healthcare centers.
Our mission is to make a difference in early education and basic healthcare in remote rural India. We want to make positive interventions in early education, nutrition and basic healthcare in rural India. We hope to bridge the digital divide to the extent we can. No Rural Indian Child should be deprived of quality early education!!
